new slang words

Hey World,

So I was introduced to the term 'Digital Dating' today. Apparently this has been a term since at least December when MTV aired their Anti-Digital Dating campaign 'A Thin Line". How did I miss this? Have you all heard of it? It apparently deals with the problems that come with sexting and picture messages. Sending a topless pic to your boyfriend you trust so much will 99% of the time be shown to his friends as well. So okay this is a bad idea. But I really like the term Digital Dating.

Since we are becoming a society of tech gadgets I think its very fitting. The commercials say 1 and 5 relationships starts on Match.com or E Harmony or another social dating site. They should be using Digital Dating here! How did you meet? Oh we started Digital Dating back in January. I love that! I think it should catch on!

On another note, this term came about because teens, mostly girls, were experiencing abuse and harassment in middle and high school when their boyfriends would 1) control their phones by checking them and 2) show sexts and naked picture messages to their friends. We all know how teenagers are and its easy to believe that a dirty text or naked photo would circulate through even a large high school very quickly. We are a people far too interconnected to eachother. Twitter, facebook, myspace(does anyone still use that), phones, bbm, everything! Its so hard to become disconnected from the world.

Are we heading towards a spiral of bad events when everyone we know knows everything about us? I even find it far too easy to find things about the cute guy in class I have never met but know his first name and fraternity he is in. I can know within 6 minutes that he has 2 little brothers, his mom is a dentist, his dad a lawyer, originally from NY, moved here when grandma got sick, he studies mechanical engineering and works at olive garden as a server on weekends. All from seeing letters on his shirt one day.

Where does this end? Should it? What do you think....

thanks for reading!

the first day of the rest of my life

Today I became an adult. I now work 830-530 and was the first one in my office this morning. I realized quickly how much coffee is needed and why it is the second largest traded good in the world. I have been here for two hours now and have read an employee handbook and began paperwork for health insurance and other benefits.

However... This only happened after I tuned in to my lady gaga Pandora radio channel and danced around the office alone to "wake up". I'm fooling myself, I am still tired, I'm just happier. So I realize, I have at least 40 years of working and possibly sitting in an office up ahead of me so in order to wrap my head around that I think I will start every morning with an office dance party. It helps I will always be here alone for an hour or so... but still, everyone could benefit from a morning giggle or two.

I still would rather be her..

But I will be okay just starting my morning off positively.

When does it end?

Hey World,

If we look back in history of why our founding fathers came to America, and why they established a free people, we will see that they believed all men were created equal. That all people deserved a place to live free from harsh restrictions. Thats why they left England, so they could live how they saw fit. This general principle is losing its way in our current society. Four US teens have taken their lives in the past few weeks because they were not allowed life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They were all gay, and all harassed because of it. Here are their stories,

13 year old Asher Brown shot himself in the head after being persistently harassed by his school mates.

15 year old Billy Lucas hung himself after years of harassment because of his sexuality

13 year old Seth Walsh hung himself after abuse for being gay from his peers

19 year old Raymond Chase hung himself as well, though it is not sure he was bullied.

This has gotten completely out of hand though. When 4 teenagers feel that their life is so miserable that they can not see the light at the end of the tunnel and choose to die rather than to live.

Please, please, please, show the people you care for that you love them. If you have a friend who is stuggling with their sexuality, self image or anything else, realize that this is when they need you most.

thanks for listening,

What ever happened to dating?

Hello World!

I have been out of commission for a while I know, my apologies! I'd love to say I was doing something amazing but I was mostly visiting family. I did however read a great book, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Fantastic read, dark, twisty, with some love and fun too. Its the first of a three part series so now I am on to the next book and let me tell you, its just as good!

Now to the point of this post... When and more importantly WHY have people stopped dating? Dating is exactly how to get to know eachother, but now it seems that no one is even going on a first date. People are still hooking up, and they are still boyfriend and girlfriend but mostly they are meeting at parties and bars and through friends.

I want to meet a guy at the grocery store who asks me to a movie or out for coffee. If I just wanted to hook up, yeah a bar is fine, but to actually date someone, can't we meet somewhere random?

This brings me to my next point. Yes feminism, women getting paid more, woo, but still when is the last time a woman asked a man out. We women sit around waiting for the guy and he obv takes too long and there we go, chance missed. When will it be, or is it already socially acceptable for the girl to ask the guy out?

Give me your thoughts, I'd love to know what you think.

Have a great wednesday everyone!

Jersey Shore

Hey World,

Can I please tell you all how excited I am to watch Jersey Shore tonight? I love the weekly reminder that I am living my life better than they are. But am I really? They are true to who they are, however revolting it may be to every else. I think they get some props for that. What they dont get props for is the aggression and distaste in which they conduct their freedoms.

It will be very interesting to see what goes down with Angelina. She returns to the show even though no one else in the house knows shes coming. It is rumored though that she leaves yet again. Probably because it would be extremely hard for a person to live in a house of strangers who hate you.

Who else will be watching this epic night tonight?

Trashy Television

Whats up world?

I absolutely love trashy TV, that is almost any reality show there is. Real world and real housewives (all of them) being my two favorites. I happen to just watch the episode of Real Housewives of New Jersey where Theresa and Danielle have a fight at the country club. Then Danielle calls the police, who do nothing, and everyone goes home.

As much as I love the show and watch it, meaning I feed this horrible American Society crap, I find a problem in this episode that can be applied to almost all reality TV.

1) Danielle is mentally ill. It has become clear that similar to Kelly on housewives of New York, Danielle lives in a very different reality than is perceived by everyone else. Danielle truly is afraid that the women on the show are going to attack her. In fact, she thinks they already did. She feels a need for body guards and police intervention

2) Danielle, though always fearful of physical harm, continues to go to all the places that the other women frequent. Asking for it yes, deserving it no.

3)The police see Danielle as the boy who cried wolf. Though I do not believe anyone should have been arrested, and Danielle was absurdly hysterical, the police were not serving and protecting. I do believe the other women need to be protected from Danielle really.

4) Theresa is no angel. She may not have picked a fight with Danielle, but she did start a conversation with her. Has no one else learned that if you open the door for Danielle to go crazy she will?

So this brings me to a few questions:
1)What about Danielle's kids? Are they in danger having a mother with no income besides this show, having a mother who is not stable enough to handle herself, and frequently has ex-convicts who see no harm in threatening violence and are okay with going to jail again?

2)When do the actions on reality TV since now exposed become someones responsibility? It is now obvious to all of America that there are issues that are escalating to a dangerous area. Because they all signed contracts does this mean we all watch and wait for disaster?

This is my biggest problem with reality TV. We all want to watch people mess up their lives, but no one is willing to help them.

I do think that Caroline and Jaquelin as well as her husband need to be applauded. Caroline has been right this whole time. Ignore the crazy lady and go about your life the way you want to. Give her no reason to be part of you. Good job! Jaquelin and her husband need applause on their daughter who is obviously out of control. If she listened to them, shed be in good hands. Typical teenager thinking they are above it and untouchable... "it won't happen to me" She actually thinks she can 'do whatever she wants shes 18' What she doesn't understand is that if she really wanted to kick Danielle's ass she should have done it before her 18th birthday so she would be a juvenile.

There should be a seminar for high school students freshman year and again senior year explaining the law to them....

I wish all the housewives, especially Kelly and Danielle the best, they need the most help. And I hope Albie, Caroline's son becomes the greatest attorney America has ever known.

smile today

Hello there world!

Today I have been reminded of those little things that make a person happy. Today I was at work and annoyed at the task of sorting and delivering mail. Seems silly to be annoyed at something so easy and mundane. However, I will admit that I was in fact annoyed. Then I realized, since taking on the mail delivery of another co -worker, I have acquired a large amount of rubber bands. So from this lame task of mail delivery I have now gotten a fun new task that includes a fun new toy. Rubber Band Ball. Since I have a go big or go home motto this is my new goal

http://www.boingboing.net/esidfklg.jpg

Though I realize enormous elastics like those depicted in the photo above will not come in my mail packages... a girl can dream.

I also dropped my wallet today, scattering coins everywhere. I mean EVERYWHERE. They went rolling down the hall and everything. Again annoyance set in. As I collect all of my random belongings that are somehow housed in my wallet I come across a little green paper I got at a Yoga studio about a year ago. It said " Love yourself Today"

So today I urge myself as well as anyone out there to find the good in the bad, smile today, and have a good time. I have certainly learned my lesson to take a deep breath and laugh at myself when I drop everything on the floor :)
